Summer is quickly approaching and I continue to use Music to help build vocabulary and keep students engaged right until the end of the year! To that end, here are 6 French Summer songs you might like to introduce to your students!
1. Chanson pour les vacances (C'est l'été)
Chanson pour les vacances (C’est l’Été) by Math&Léo is a song about a trip to Marseille for vacation. This song could lead into discussions about where Marseille is. The chorus is catchy and highlights the words chaud and beau which is a great French phonics connection or review of the different ways to form the sound “o”.
2. C'est l'été
C’est l’Été by Les Patapons has some wonderful images and is full of activities that children can participate in during the Summer months. Try having students keep track of how many different activities they tend to through the summer months.
3. Les vacances d'été
Les vacances d’été by Monde de Titounis is a cute little comptine for younger students. It has a fun little rap part in the middle of the song!
4. Si tu pars en voyage
This is a song that builds up as it goes. After each chorus, more clothing and objects are added to the suitcase. As a followup, try having students design what they would pack in their suitcase if they were going on a trip! If you have been learning about other countries, students could pack their suitcase according to what they would need for where they are going.
5. La fourmi m'a piqué la main
This song is a cute little action song to introduce a variety of insects. It is also great for reviewing parts of the body!
6. Ça y'est c'est l'été
This song by “Les chansons de Nina” has a really catchy tune. Encourage your students to move to the music. They lyrics also includes some of the five senses and could lead to great discussions about the 5 senses in the summer time.
Happy Summer singing in French!
