“Un mois à la fois” by Susan B. Katz is a wonderful book for introducing or reviewing 2D shapes with young French students. It also ties in so well with daily and seasonal cycles.
Each page in the book features a different shape and month throughout the year. With beautiful images and simple text, this book is an instant favourite. Use this book to start a discussion about where we use and see shapes in our daily lives. This book can also be brought into Science when you are learning about daily and seasonal cycles as it beautifully illustrates them!
Once students are familiar with the book and the names of the shapes, send them out on a shape hunt! Glue these shape cutouts to popsicle sticks and students can wander around the classroom looking for examples of all the different places they see shapes. This activity would also work as a small group activity!
